Lessons

Three instruments. One patient, expert teacher.

Every lesson is private and built around the student: their age, their goals, and the music they actually want to play.

01Piano

From the very first notes to advanced repertoire: technique, sight-reading, theory and ear training, plus the musical touch that turns notes into music. Classical, popular and Latin repertoire.

Beginners from age 5, returning adults, and students preparing for recitals or school auditions.

02Voice

Healthy technique first, with breathing, support, range, pitch and diction, and then the interpretation that makes a song yours. Pop, ballads, boleros, musical theatre, church and choir.

Kids who love to sing, teens preparing for auditions, and adults who have always wanted to sing with confidence.

03Guitar

Acoustic guitar fundamentals done right: chords, strumming and rhythm, reading, and playing the songs you love, on a solid foundation that makes everything after it easier.

Beginners and intermediate players, from about age 7 to adults.

Every student also learns to read music, understand theory and train their ear: the foundations that make a real musician, not just someone who memorizes songs.

About Josefa

A lifetime in music, at your service.

Josefa Cabiedes holds a Master's degree in Music from the Universidad de las Artes (ISA) in Havana, Cuba's national university of the arts and one of the most demanding music schools in Latin America. She has taught piano, voice and guitar for more than 45 years, to students from five years old to retirees.

She is also a working composer and arranger. Her compositions have earned distinctions and prizes in international competitions, including a worldwide composition competition in Japan, and she has traveled abroad as an ambassador of Cuban classical music. Along the way she has performed as an orchestra keyboardist, recorded with distinguished singers, and played countless weddings and private events.

For you, that means a teacher who knows exactly what it takes to go from a first lesson to a real performance, and who has the patience to walk you there one step at a time, in English or Spanish.

FAQ

Questions parents and students ask

At what age can my child start?

Piano and voice from about age 5, guitar from about age 7, once hands are big enough for the neck. There is no upper limit: adults and seniors are always welcome.

Do we need an instrument at home?

For piano, a keyboard with at least 61 full-size keys is enough to practice on, and Josefa can advise on what to buy. For guitar, you need your own guitar. For voice, nothing at all.

How long and how often are lessons?

Most students take one lesson a week of 30, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on age and level. Josefa will recommend what fits the student best.

Do you teach in Spanish?

Yes. Every lesson is available in English, in Spanish, or a mix of both, whatever the student is most comfortable with.

Where are the lessons?

At Josefa's home studio in West Miami-Dade (zip 33174), online over video call, or, with limited availability, at your home in nearby neighborhoods. The exact address is shared when you book.

I'm an adult and a complete beginner. Is that OK?

Absolutely. Many of Josefa's students started as adult beginners. Lessons move at your pace with music you actually like.

How much do lessons cost?

Rates depend on the lesson length and format. Message Josefa on WhatsApp with the instrument, the student's age and your preferred format, and she will send you the current rates right away.

Can Josefa prepare me for an audition, exam or performance?

Yes: school and program auditions, choir and church, recitals, competitions and recordings. As a composer and arranger she can also prepare custom arrangements for your piece.
